I was born and brought up in São Paulo, Brazil. My parents were Japanese and emigrated to Brazil when they were children. As a child I went to Japanese and Brazilian schools. I took English and Portuguese Language and Literature as an undergraduate at Catholic University of São Paulo. I have an MA and a PhD degree in Applied Linguistics; my main focus of research was Portuguese as a Foreign Language.
After teaching for decades at the Catholic University of São Paulo, I came to teach Portuguese at Swansea University and retired in 2010. Since then, I have been travelling around the world, quilting and enjoying life. To keep fit I do Nordic walking as often as I can. I also enjoy cooking and having friends at home.
I started taking photos with my mobile phone some years ago, as it became very easy and accessible. However, the quality of some of those photos was very poor as I knew nothing about the techniques of photo apps. Joining these photo workshops made me aware of many things but, above all, that feelings and creativity are the most important things to take a good picture.
Nací y me crié en São Paulo, Brasil. Mis padres eran japoneses y emigraron a Brasil cuando eran niños. De niña fui a escuelas japonesas y brasileñas. Estudié Lengua y Literatura Inglesa y Portuguesa en la Universidad Católica de São Paulo. Tengo una maestría y un doctorado en Lingüística Aplicada y mi principal foco de investigación fue el portugués como lengua extranjera.
Después de enseñar durante décadas en la Universidad Católica de São Paulo, vine a enseñar portugués en la Universidad de Swansea y me jubilé en 2010. Desde entonces me dedico a viajar por el mundo, a la costura de “quilting” y a disfrutar de la vida. Para mantenerme en forma hago marcha nórdica siempre que puedo. También me gusta cocinar y tener amigos en casa.
Hace unos años empecé a hacer fotos con mi teléfono móvil, ya que resultaba muy fácil y accesible. Sin embargo, la calidad de algunas de esas fotos era muy baja porque no sabía nada de las técnicas de las aplicaciones fotográficas. Participar en estos talleres de fotografía me hizo tomar conciencia de muchas cosas, pero sobre todo de que los sentimientos y la creatividad son lo más importante para tomar una buena foto.
